Sydney JamesInspiration strikes at any moment. Having an iPhone or MacBook Pro around can be what captures your moment of creativity in a way a piece of paper cannot. Don’t believe me? Ask country/southern rock musician and Simply Computing customer, Sydney James.

She uses her iPhone 4 when a melody occurs to her: “I use Voice Memo on my iPhone all the time whenever a melody or a line for a lyric comes to me. I always use that. I can email it out to myself, I can trim it right on the phone. It is very handy.” She’ll use this when she is out and about without her MacBook Pro. When she is working with her producer to edit songs, her Macbook Pro has Logic Pro 9 loaded on for a great professional sound.

I asked her if she had further plans for her MacBook Pro and recording with a microphone or guitar plugged directly in to it. Her response was: “That is what the intent will be. I need to get an audio interface to hook up a proper recording mic. That is why I wanted to be sure I had the most RAM on this Mac (Sydney had hers upgraded by the technicians here at Simply), because I need it to run Logic and record through an audio interface.”

Other ways her MacBook is being used in her music career is through visual media sharing. Photoshop and iPhoto help her share promotional images of herself and she edits video clips for YouTube in iMovie. Anyone as pretty as her would be well advised to use these tools to optimize these promotional outlets!

I often wonder what the specific reasons are for our customers coming to us. Sydney said the biggest reason was “for the free seminars. I want to figure out how this stuff works!” Our free, twice weekly seminars are certainly a way to expand the knowledge of a new Mac user. All of us here at Vancouver Broadway hope to see her back soon!

What really surprised her about using a MacBook Pro for the first time was the trackpad. “I find this (trackpad) to be a lot easier to use than I expected it to be. I bought a wireless mouse and I haven’t used it except for when I’m working in Logic. I didn’t expect that I’d get use to the swipes and right click menus so quickly.”

If you’re in the music business and looking to stay mobile, it is tough to argue against a MacBook Pro with Logic Pro 9 loaded on and a RAM upgrade. Sydney also thought this to be true and the reason why she bought hers. If you’d like to hear the music a Mac can help you build check out www.sydneyjamesmusic.com for some of her music samples.
